Joss Whedon Equality Now Speech: Joss Whedon was honoured at a dinner put on by the organization Equality Now in mid-May, and they have videotaped his speech. This was shown at the screening before the film, as it best describes the motivation of this whole screening campaign in 47 cities. You can see it on youtube with Meryl Streep introducing him here

IMPORTANT NOTE: Wil Wheaton will only be present for the Book signing and reading, he will not be present at the Screening. We apologize if there has been any confusion.

Cost: Tickets can only be purchased at two places. 1)At the booksigning only from 1 pm to 4:30 pm. It will be $10. 2) At the door of the screening, they will be $15 starting 7:00 pm.

Pre/Post-Screening Activities:

WIL WHEATON BOOK READING & SIGNING @ 1:00 PM
It is confirmed! Wil Wheaton will be at Melange Magique(see address above) to do a book reading to start at 1 pm. Starting at 3 pm, he will do a book signing. This event is hosted by the organizers of the Charity Screening. For more information call the store 514-938-1458. And you can see the event announced on Wil Wheaton's blog here


ZYNG: PRE-SCREENING DINNER @ 4:30 pm
There will be a pre-screening dinner at 4:30pm. Location is at Zyng Asian Grill 1625 de Maisonneuve West (corner Guy). If we are 20 or more people, we will get a meal discount. Ask for Scarlet or the Montreal Browncoats when you arrive. Most of us will part the restaurant by 5:30pm to set up tables for the screening.


  • There will be tables with swag and merchandise for sale and give-away, as well as promotionals and a sneak-peak at the door prizes. This will occur from 6:00-7:30pm at the theatre.

INTERTAINMENT CAFE: POST SCREENING SHINDIG @ 10:15 pm
After the screening, we will have a post-screening shindig. This is a cafe witha lounge area(no alcohol sorry...), they also have bubble tea and small food items. It is on the corner of Bishop & Blvd Rene-Levesque.



General Information

Synopsis: A passenger with a deadly secret. Six rebels on the run. An assassin in pursuit. When the renegade crew of Serenity agrees to hide a fugitive on their ship, they find themselves in an action-packed battle between the relentless military might of a totalitarian regime who will destroy anything - or anyone - to get the girl back and the bloodthirsty creatures who roam the uncharted areas of space. But, the greatest danger of all may be on their ship. This is a continuation of the TV series Firefly created by Joss Whedon.

The Campaign: The screening in Montreal will be one of 30+ screenings of the movie Serenity around the world, which are occuring on the week leading up to June 23rd. This day is the birthday of creator Joss Whedon, and as a big thank you to the creator, the fans are organizing charity screenings. The proceeds of these screenings will go to Joss Whedon's favourite charity, Equality Now.

About Equality Now: Equality Now works to end violence and discrimination against women and girls around the world through the mobilization of public pressure. They operate in the same manner as Amnesty International, however they focus on issues concerning women.
EXTRA: Joss Whedon, creator of Serenity & Firefly, will be a special honouree at a dinner to benefit Equality Now on May 15th. On the Road to Equality

DOOR PRIZES: There will be wonderful prizes for 9 (nine) lucky folks who attend the event. Your ticket is your entry for the door prizes.
